Objective: To create a poster promotional piece based on the skateboard design as the subject matter. Two separate format are required: a standard poster (18 x 24 in) and a wallpaper that can be downloaded for the iOS or Android phone.
Production Scope: Creative based project that will use previous assets as the raw materials for the final digital preparation that may require print output and/or online presentation. Student will also make use of best practices and skill sets developed in other courses and semesters.Full creative and development scope may be provided via stylized client email. Subject covered but not limited to the following: Photo effects, Color pallet, Texture, Copy Deck, layout, Typography, Digital manipulation, production process, stylized design. This is not a personal project but a business project you will be required to track your hours using an online service for the time-sheet/spreadsheet.
Discovery and Ideation: Here are my mind map and assets that I will be using, including my skateboard design.

Brainstorming and mind mapping of ideas. |
After brainstorming a few ideas, I thought the best way to go was to create a movie poster. And the first thing that comes to mind when you combine dinosaurs and movies is Jurassic Park. Based on that idea, I decided to create a movie poster for Jurassic Park. But since a very well designed poster had already been created for the first three movies, I thought it would be pointless to re-create a poster for those movies. Instead I created a poster for a potential forth movie simply names Jurassic Park 4. Below are the assets I used in creating the final.

Metal texture used in skateboard design, also serving as a raster picture element. |

Universal Logo |

Amblin Entertainment logo |

Original Jurassic Park logo |

To create the Jurassic Park font, I went to this site, which generated it for me.

Production: Here are the final images for the poster and the iOS wallpaper.

For the poster, I kept the design simple, similar to the first Jurassic Park movie poster. I replaced the original dinosaur skeleton in the logo with my dinosaur, popping out of the logo. Instead of using the traditional red background, I used my texture/raster element to make it seem as if the raptor is ripping though it. I kept my type elements related to the original poster, with the director at the top and the movie tagline and release date below the logo. At the very bottom corners I put the studio logos. And finally, my favorite part of the poster, the trees and sunset at the top. For some reason that I'm unaware of, the image of those trees and sunset has had a psychological impact on me. i don't know whether it's fear or not, but for some reason seeing those trees just puts me at unease. Perhaps it's the feeling of knowing what's behind them. I don't like looking at them but at the same time I can't look away. |
|
For my iPhone wallpaper, I simply scaled down the image of the poster and removed the unnecessary text and logos at the bottom. |
